Job Summary

Nexus Underwriting Ltd is seeking to hire a driven and analytical Underwriting Assistant, who will be supporting the Aviation & Space underwriting team and Directors in writing business for the company, as well as liaising with various other departments in the Group and brokers in the marketplace.

 

The successful Underwriting Assistant will be responsible for managing inboxes, reviewing underwriting submissions and logging risks, liaising with brokers on renewal business, ensuring our underwriting system and document repository are kept up to date and the information is accurate and organised, and other administrative tasks requested by the underwriting team and Directors.

 

Your role

  • Reviewing underwriting submissions on behalf of Senior Underwriters;
  • Logging risks onto our underwriting system from both the submissions inboxes and from broker appointments;
  • Entering quote details onto our underwriting system;
  • Processing NTU’s and declinatures onto our underwriting system;
  • Processing FON’s/bound risks onto our underwriting system;
  • Chasing outstanding subjectivities and information from brokers;
  • Liaising with brokers on renewal business, assisting with queries;
  • Issuing pre-quotes/fast track renewals;
  • Sending renewal reminders and ensuring Underwriters are kept up to date with the status of renewals;
  • Working with Credit Control to chase down aged debt;
  • Entering of Premium credit risks;
  • Regular reporting, including daily performance data, MI and dashboards;
  • Assisting with audits;
  • Other admin tasks such as answering phone calls, taking messages, arranging and assisting with broker appointments;
  • Completing ACII exams within 2.5 years of joining.

 

Your profile

  • Educated to an undergraduate degree, but as a minimum A Levels with strong results in English and Mathematics (A-A*)
  • Prior underwriting and/or insurance experience is a strong advantage
  • Enthusiastic and hardworking individual with a focus of providing the best possible service
  • Adaptable and able to manage multiple tasks within a high pressured environment, including working to tight deadlines
  • High attention to detail in producing a quality output, accurate record keeping
  • Presentable, with excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Commercial awareness partnered with a strategic mind-set
  • Ability to build trust by operating with integrity and professionalism
  • Experience in delivering client-focused solutions and in creating long-lasting relationships
  • IT literate, must have good working knowledge of all Microsoft Office packages

Principal Duties/Responsibilities

  • Reviewing underwriting submissions on behalf of Senior Underwriters;

  • Entering quote details onto our underwriting system(s);
  • Processing NTU’s and declinatures onto our underwriting system(s);
  • Processing FON’s/bound risks onto our underwriting system(s);
  • Chasing outstanding subjectivities and information from brokers;
  • Liaising with brokers on renewal business, assisting with queries;
  • Issuing pre-quotes/fast track renewals;
  • Sending renewal reminders and ensuring Underwriters are kept up to date with the status of renewals;

  • Assisting with audits;
  • Other admin tasks such as answering phone calls, taking messages, arranging and assisting with broker appointments;
  • Ensuring that Nexus Brand & Values, code of conduct and policies is adhered to at all times both within the workplace or at other external events;
  • Refer any matter beyond the level of an individual’s experience or authority to their line manager;
  • Completing a minimum of 15 hours of continuous professional development annually;
  • Completing ACII exams within 2.5 years of joining.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Prior underwriting experience is a strong advantage
