Richard Taffler joined Warwick Business School in January 2011 as Professor of Finance and Accounting from a chair at Manchester Business School and is a member of the Finance Group in the School. Previously he was the Martin Currie Professor of Finance and Investment at the University of Edinburgh.
An authority on behavioural finance, he has published over a hundred academic and professional papers and books, and his work is frequently quoted and discussed in the media. Richard’s research and publication interests cover the areas of credit analysis and financial distress risk, company failure, investment, corporate finance, and the role gambling plays in financial markets. Professor Taffler is currently developing the new paradigm of emotional finance to complement traditional and behavioural perspectives which focuses on the role of the emotions and unconscious fantasy in explaining financial decisions and market behaviour.
Since its inception Nexus CIFS have worked with Richard Taffler, deploying his financial Z and PAS score models to enhance underwriting decisions on larger limits.
Working on a traffic light system, Taffler’s models provide a picture of a company and its relative position within its sector focusing on solvency, profitability, gearing, financial risk and liability cover. Highly predictive in outcomes, their use has proved invaluable – with their complex financial modeling capabilities allowing underwriters to gain an insight unique to Nexus CIFS.
Richard consults actively with major investment houses and other financial organisations and is a strong believer in the benefits of active engagement between finance academics and practitioners.
