Underwriting Assistant

Job Summary

To deliver high quality administrative support to the Underwriting team.

Principal Duties/Responsibilities

    • Scanning documentation and saving to the electronic filing system and/or document repository
    • Logging risks onto our underwriting system(s) from both the Submissions inboxes and from broker appointments under instruction from Underwriters
    • Entering quote details onto our underwriting system(s) under instruction from Underwriters
    • Processing NTU’s and declinatures onto our underwriting system(s) under instruction from Underwriters
    • Processing FON’s/bound risks onto our underwriting system(s) under instruction from Underwriters
    • Issuing and re-issuing policy documentation to Underwriters
    • Unaccepting policies under instruction from Underwriters
    • Processing endorsements and MTA’s onto our underwriting system(s), including AP’s, RP’s, amendments to cover/client details and letters of appointment under instruction from Underwriters
    • Chasing outstanding subjectivities and information from brokers
    • Liaising with brokers on renewal business, assisting with queries, under instruction from Underwriters
    • Issuing of pre-quotes/fast track renewals, under instruction of Underwriting Support Line Manager
    • Working with Credit Control to chase down aged debt
    • Entry of Premium credit risks
    • Sending renewal reminders and ensuring Underwriters are kept up to date with the status of renewals
    • Ensuring our underwriting system(s) and the electronic filing system and/or document repository are kept up to date and the information is accurate and organised
    • Other admin tasks such as answering phone calls, taking messages, arranging and assisting with broker appointments
    • Regular reporting, including daily performance data and dashboards
    • Ad-hoc reporting and collating of MI data
    • Researching companies using online tools such as Advisen and Factiva
    • Data entry checking
    • Attending weekly department team meetings (taking minutes if required)
    • Assisting with audits
    • Providing and maintaining referencing systems

Required Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge, Experience

GCSE /A -level or equivalent

 

Skills:

Excellent organisational skills and the ability to multi- task

Ability to work under pressure as part of a small team

Excellent communication skills

Attention to detail and deadlines

Ability to maintain and develop good working relationships at all levels

Excellent time management

Accurate record keeping

Confident and able to work on own initiative and with limited supervision

IT literacy including preferably advanced skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and other Microsoft Office applications

 

Knowledge/Experience:

Relevant experience in a similar role
