Job Summary

Nexus Claims Management Services Ltd is seeking to hire an experienced Claims Broker who will be working closely with the Claims Manager, Head of Claims and wider claims team providing a best in class claims service to our underwriting carrier partners, policyholders and brokers. As an MGA, Nexus predominantly is an underwriting business. However, over the years the added value of being able to place its own binders (and those of its partner businesses) has reinvigorated the function of the Lloyd’s / placing broker.

About the role

Working as part of the Nexus Claims team, the Claims Broker will primarily be focussed on supporting all claims activity generated from such binder placements plus some requirements for open market placements, line slips and quota share treaties. This includes the preparation and processing of new claims and claims bordereaux plus payment and reconciliation of all applicable claims. This position will be working closely with both the claims management team and internal brokers/underwriters to provide a best in class claims service to all stakeholders.

A key skill set is a deep familiarity with London market bureaux systems such as CLASS/ECF/IMR.

Principal Duties/Responsibilities

  • Creating, processing and managing all binding authority claims (particularly those that arise from binders placed by EBA for Nexus, as well as other accounts) in a timely and efficient manner from first notification to settlement/closure;
  • Working closely with all internal stakeholders such as our Brokers, Underwriters, Claims Adjusters, Processing Technicians and Claims Finance/Operations/MI staff for the purposes of claims related activity, payments and relevant MI information;
  • Creating and processing claims and bordereaux via Xchanging (CLASS / ECF / IMR) and internal IT systems / claims platforms;
  • Managing binding authorities and/or line slips as required;
  • Being the claims point of contact for the Nexus coverholder as well as carriers / insureds / external vendors;
  • Accurately entering data and claims notes, appointing and managing loss adjusters, ensuring that outstanding claims matters are chased where necessary;
  • Working with colleagues and following up with Nexus TPAs to set up claims floats, manage claims floats, circulate large claims, present for collection all claims payments and investigate differences and liaise with the technical team and brokers;
  • Reviewing, monitoring and resolving technical questions from Xchanging, clients, markets, credit control, claims and the business unit, to ensure that the client’s best interests are maintained. This includes working closely with our claims processing and finance teams to ensure bank reconciliations of claims monies coming in and any unallocated claims cash;
  • Working closely with the technical divisions to perform regular review to ensure claims bordereaux are submitted in timely manner by our TPAs;
  • Escalating concerns or issues to claims department management with recommendations of possible solutions or process enhancements;
  • Ensuring we act effectively with adherence to relevant service level agreements whilst maintaining compliance with any applicable UK or International statutory or regulatory obligation as required;
  • Identify and escalate claims related issues where necessary including any matter(s) beyond the level of the individual’s experience or authority;
  • Ensuring that Nexus Brand & Values, code of conduct and policies is adhered to at all times both within the workplace or at other external events;
  • Completing a minimum of 15 hours of continuous professional development annually.

Required Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge, Experience


  • Ideally educated to an undergraduate degree, but as a minimum A'Levels with strong results in English and Mathematics
  • Cert CII or equivalent (or an interest in such qualifications)


  • Enthusiastic and hardworking individual with a focus of providing the best possible service

  • Adaptable and able to manage multiple tasks within a high pressured environment, including working to tight deadlines

  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • IT literate, must have good working knowledge of all Microsoft Office packages

Knowledge & Experience

  • ECF / UMR / CLASS knowledge a necessity
  • Excellent reading and understanding of Slip and Endorsement placements
  • Ideally experience of working in a Lloyd’s Broker or similar environment
  • Existing knowledge of the insurance claims market / process
  • French and/or Italian language advantageous
