Job Summary

Nexus Specialty Inc., a division of The Nexus Group, is looking for an ambitious Actuarial / Business Analyst in the Chicago area to join the Nexus US operations. We are a fast-paced, energetic and rapidly growing MGA that offers a great opportunity for a driven person interested in working with the CEO, Executives and Senior Management team in identifying business growth opportunities in North America.

The Actuarial / Business Analyst will be a trusted Business Partner to the Executive team scoping out new business initiatives, assisting the CEO by researching and providing detailed analysis of current and potential future products and market opportunities.

Principal Duties/Responsibilities

Providing detailed financial modelling and analysis, and insight into key areas of interest including new products, services and functions;
Analysing the financial risks and opportunities of projects;
Map current and new markets for Nexus in terms of possible opportunities and areas of interest in North America;
Be responsible for data preparation, pricing and analysis;
Building actuarial models and testing frameworks;
Presenting results and advice to clients and brokers;
Check, correct and optimise financial data (e.g. cash flow statements) for projects;
Preparing briefing packs for submission to the Executive and Senior Management team;
Researching and collect information required to start projects, preparing detailed plans, determining resource allocation, deliverable timelines and possible issues;
Establishing key performance indicators and monitoring the project with reference to cost estimates, overall plans, and deliverable deadlines;
Managing projects from inception to delivery, engaging other team members and clients as required;
Working on current M&A activities in providing operational reports, research analysis and data on the current opportunities;
Identifying future opportunities, provide thoughts and recommendations based on market data and research;
Providing post investment modelling and monitoring feedback.

Required Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge, Experience

Educated to a college or university degree, preferably with a degree in Business, Finance, Economics or similar
A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in an actuarial role experience
Experience of technical modelling and financial analysis is essential
Project management experience, with proven success in supporting complex projects through end-to-end life cycle would be a benefit
Experience in the insurance industry, preferably Specialty markets preferred although not crucial
Must be a self-starter and able to use own initiative in identifying opportunities and articulating these opportunities to the Executive team
With Commercial awareness partnered with a strategic mind-set
Strong analytical skills within an ability to convey complex ideas
Must have a strong understanding of core valuation concepts and their application
Must have an understanding of business modelling
Top class problem solving skills with the ability to see the bigger picture
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with experience in stakeholder management
